Radiofrequency Ablation

Radiofrequency ablation is used to interrupt pain signals from specific areas, such as the spine and the neck. It is a minimally-invasive procedure, that heats a small volume of nerve tissue, thereby interrupting the pain signal. Using an X-Ray for guidance, a small needle is inserted into your neck or back, and electrodes are used to place the radiofrequency probes in the appropriate location to achieve relief.

There may be some slight discomfort after the procedure from the location of the needle insertion, but should subside over the next couple days, and provide lasting pain relief. The pain signals are typically blocked for up to 1-2 years after the procedure, and the procedure can be repeated if pain returns.
