Spinal Stenosis

What is Spinal Stenosis?

Spinal stenosis is the narrowing of the spaces within your spine, creating vascular congestion and inflammation on the spinal cord and nerves, depending on the level at which it is located. It typically happens as you age, but can also be attributed to factors like arthritis, herniated discs, and bone spurs. Spinal stenosis develops more over time, affecting other areas of the body like your lower back, neck, arms, and legs. As the spaces shrink, blood supply is restricted to the nerveโ€™s roots for those other areas of the body.

Symptoms

  • Pain in legs or lower back
  • Numbness or tingling in limbs
  • Difficulty walking long distances
