Intracept is an FDA cleared, x-ray guided procedure in which a probe is placed into the vertebral body to ablate a nerve to prevent transmission of pain from the area. Dr. DePalma was the first physician in Virginia to perform the Intracept procedure for low back pain over 10 years ago as Virginia iSpine Physicians was a site on the initial clinical trial evaluating this procedure. Since Dr. DePalma’s involvement on the study, the Intracept procedure has become commercially available and now has a procedure coverage code. Results from the study Dr. DePalma was involved in show a significant reduction in low back pain and disability after properly selected patients underwent treatment with Intracept.
